I am a final-year PhD candidate in the Mitochondrial Neuropathology lab at the Neurosciences Institute of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in Catalonia (Spain), and I study a rare Primary Mitochondrial Disease called Leigh Syndrome that affects children. Patients with mitochondrial disorders often present with endocrinopathies, so my project aims to better understand how deficient mitochondria can compromise the normal functioning of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis and, therefore, reproductive function.
