Pancreas transplantation provides a successful, and durable cure for type 1 diabetes. However, because it is major surgery, and requires life-long 'heavy' immue suppression, it is only suitable for a relatively small number of people with T1D. This presentation will discuss islet transplantation, xeno-islet transplantation and stem-cell-derived islet transplantation, including potential for human trials of xeno-islet transplantation and stem-cell-derived islet transplantation in Australia.
